Signs of Spring
Spring has arrived, and our classroom has been buzzing with excitement as we explore the changes happening all around us.
This week, students created a “Signs of Spring” journal entry in their visual journals. We talked together about what we notice outside, such as melting snow, birds returning, puddles, growing plants, and warmer weather. Students shared their ideas orally before drawing and adding labels or words to represent their thinking.
Through this learning task, students demonstrated their growth in several areas of the curriculum:
Literacy (Language & Communication)
- I can share my ideas through pictures, labels, and words.
Science (Understanding the World)
- I can notice and describe changes in the natural world.
Wellness (Identity & Belonging)
- I can share my ideas and listen to others.
These journal entries are an important way for students to connect oral language, drawing, and early writing skills while exploring real-world experiences. It was wonderful to see their creativity and growing confidence.
You might try this at home by going on a short spring walk and asking:
What do you notice has changed?
What signs of spring can you see or hear?
Have a wonderful weekend.
