Hello Families,
I am so excited to welcome you and your child to our kindergarten community! This year promises to be full of discovery, friendships, and joyful learning as we embark on exploring Alberta’s new 2025 Kindergarten Curriculum together.
Kindergarten is a special time where children learn through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. The new curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child, supporting growth in:
-
Early Literacy & Numeracy – building strong foundations through stories, songs, games, and problem-solving.
-
Well-being & Belonging – developing social skills, resilience, and a sense of self within our classroom family.
-
Citizenship & Identity – celebrating diversity, culture, and community, while helping children understand their role in caring for one another.
-
Creativity & Curiosity – encouraging imagination, wonder, and innovation through art, movement, and inquiry.
Our classroom will be a safe, caring, and engaging place where your child can thrive. Each day, we will blend play-based learning with intentional teaching to support “I Can” statements from the curriculum, helping children see themselves as capable, confident learners.
This year, you’ll notice an emphasis on:
Hands-on learning (manipulatives, outdoor exploration, building, creating)
Collaboration and kindness (learning how to work, share, and problem-solve together)
Personal growth (recognizing and celebrating each child’s unique journey)
I look forward to sharing classroom updates, photos, and highlights through this blog so you can stay connected to the exciting things we are learning and doing each week.
Thank you for trusting me with your child’s first school experience. It is truly an honour to partner with you. Together, we will make this a wonderful year of growth and discovery.
This week, we focused on classroom routines through the use of visuals. Visual schedules help children remember, stay organized, and predict. Children can navigate transitions and changes in routines with more confidence and success. Schedules support children to process information, increase their independence, and help guide attention, focus, and emotional regulation.
