Welcome Back, Kindergarten Families!
We are so happy to be together again after our time apart during the teacher strike. The children have settled back into our routines with big smiles, open hearts, and an amazing sense of excitement. Our focus this week was on reconnecting, rebuilding community, and celebrating the season together, all while learning through the lens of Alberta’s 2025 Kindergarten Curriculum.
This time of year is full of curiosity, creativity, and wonder, perfect for learning about friendship, feelings, and fall fun!
Our Focus: Community & Belonging
We’ve been exploring what it means to be part of a caring classroom family. Through stories, songs, and circle time, students were excited to share ideas, take turns, and care for one another.
- I can share my ideas and listen to others.
 - I can notice how my friends are feeling.
 - I can help make our classroom a kind and safe place.

Literacy: Telling Our Stories
In literacy, we’ve been building early reading and writing habits through shared stories, poems, and Halloween rhymes. We've been identifying letters and sounds in our names, labelling our self-portraits, and talking about story characters. At home, try reading Halloween stories together and talk about what the characters are feeling. These skills build comprehension and empathy.

- I can recognize my name and some letters.
 - I can share my ideas using pictures and words.
 - I can listen to a story and talk about what happened.

Ask your child to find patterns on their costume or sort their Halloween treats by size, colour, or type. These playful math opportunities help relate skills to real-world contexts.
- I can notice and copy a pattern.
 - I can sort things in different ways.

Citizenship & Identity: Working and Playing Together
After our time apart, we’ve been practicing how to solve problems and make decisions as a team.
- I can work with others to make decisions.
 - I can share and take turns during play.
 - I can talk about what makes me special.

The songs this week have been all about imagination! We have been singing and moving to songs like “Halloween Spooky Bus” and “Stirring the Brew.”
- I can move and make music to show feelings or ideas.

Social-Emotional Learning: Feeling Safe & Connected
Returning to kindergarten routines has been a transition for all of us. We’ve spent time naming our feelings, practicing mindfulness, and reminding each other that school is a happy place where we belong.

Have a wonderful weekend.
