Welcome, Ms. Kaiser,
We are thrilled to welcome you to our school community. We look forward to your leadership and the energy you bring to this new role. Our staff, students, and families are excited to work alongside you. We are so glad you are here!

Valentine’s Day in kindergarten is a joyful celebration of kindness, friendship, and community. While students may come home talking about hearts and cards, there is a great deal of learning happening across all subject areas. Here’s a peek into how our Valentine’s Day tasks align directly with our kindergarten curriculum.

English Language Arts

Throughout our Valentine’s learning, students are developing early literacy skills in meaningful ways. We explore stories about friendship and caring, practice listening and speaking during class discussions, and work on early writing by creating Valentine cards and messages. Students are encouraged to express ideas, share feelings, and understand that print and symbols communicate meaning.

  • I can listen and respond to stories and conversations.

  • I can express ideas, feelings, and experiences through drawing, symbols, and early writing.

  • I can recognize letters, sounds, and simple words in authentic contexts.

Math

Valentine’s Day provides many opportunities for playful math learning. Students sort, count, and compare Valentine-themed objects such as hearts or cards. We explore patterns, numbers, and simple problem-solving through hands-on games and activities.

  • I can count and represent numbers.

  • I can sort objects.

  • I can identify and create patterns.

  • I can use math language such as "more," "less," "same," and "different."

Social Studies

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time to focus on community and belonging. Students practice kindness, empathy, and respect while learning about what it means to be part of a group. We discuss how our actions affect others and how we can show care in our classroom community.

  • I can understand relationships and roles.

  • I can demonstrate respect and empathy.

  • I can develop a sense of belonging and responsibility.

Art

Creativity shines during Valentine’s Day! Students use a variety of materials to create art. Through art, students expressed emotions, ideas, and personal meaning while building fine motor skills.

  • I can explore materials and tools.

  • I can express ideas through visual art.

  • I can create with purpose and joy.

Physical Education & Wellness

Movement and well-being are also part of our celebrations. Students participate in cooperative games, movement breaks, and activities that encourage positive social interactions. We talk about healthy choices, emotions, and caring for ourselves and others.

  • I can participate in active play.

  • I can develop social and emotional awareness.

  • I can practice cooperation and self-regulation.

Valentine cards present a perfect opportunity to strengthen math and literacy skills at home!
• Point to the words or letters they recognize on the cards.
• Read the card and listen for rhyming words.
• Read the names of friends.
• Count how many cards there are.
• Put them in a row, starting with the largest to the smallest.
• Sort the valentines (e.g., all the ones with animals, etc.).
• Count all the hearts on the cards.

While Valentine’s Day is fun and festive, it also supports important learning goals. Tasks are intentionally designed to help students grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively in ways that are developmentally appropriate and meaningful.  Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home and for being part of our classroom community. We are excited to celebrate kindness, friendship, and learning together.

Have a wonderful weekend.
