Hello Families,

Happy New Year!
We have had a fabulous first week back. Students were so excited to see each other and settled into their routines quickly.  We have spent this week revisiting classroom routines, working on community-building concepts, and reviewing skills in all subject areas.

Important Dates

Jan 13 Fun Lunch

Jan 14 School Council Meeting & Parent Association Meeting

Jan 30 Non-Instructional Day – no school for students

Well-Being
  • I can be kind to others.
  • I can take turns and share.
  • I can listen when others are talking.
  • I can use my words to solve problems.
This week we read so many incredible books that focused on wellness.
"The Mindful 123" picture book teaches children about emotional regulation, self-awareness, and mindfulness. We practiced taking deep breaths to calm our bodies, counting when we were upset, being kind to ourselves through words/actions, asking for help, and noticing the world around us through curiosity and appreciation. This book led us to "The Important Book." This book focuses on recognizing the world and others around us and being appreciative. All students shared why they felt they were important. If you have ever questioned your parenting or wondered if you are doing a good job, check out these heartfelt statements and feel the authenticity behind them... I'd say this crew will move mountains!

This term, we will continue following the "UFLI" program. Daily, students will work on learning the letters of the alphabet, the sounds they make, and how to print them. We will also sing songs about the letters and their sounds to help them remember them. Each day, students will draw a picture to match the letter we learned about (e.g., "w" is for walrus). Students are learning to blend and sound out new words and are eager to write and label their work during play exploration.
