Gym
This week in physical education, our kindergarten students had a blast exploring movement, balance, and teamwork through scooter boards and an exciting group game called Hungry Hippos. These activities aren’t just fun; they help students develop essential physical literacy skills, cooperation, and confidence in movement. Students practiced moving their bodies in a variety of ways while seated or lying on scooter boards. They focused on pushing, steering, and stopping safely, which helps build core strength, balance, and spatial awareness.- I can use my body to move safely on a scooter board.
- I can stop, start, and steer while on a scooter board.
- I can show control and balance while moving in different directions.
- I can work with my friends to reach a goal together.
- I can follow the rules of a group game.
- I can move safely and quickly to collect and return objects.
Literacy “I Like School”
This week students explored expressing their thoughts and feelings through writing using the sentence frame “I like school because ___.” This learning task helped students share what they enjoy most about school, from favourite activities to special moments with friends.
- Literacy: Students practiced articulating complete sentences and expressing ideas clearly.
- Communication & Personal Awareness: By sharing their reasons for liking school, students strengthened their ability to communicate personal preferences and feelings.
- Wellness Development: Reflecting on positive experiences at school encouraged self-confidence, gratitude, and appreciation for their peers and teachers.
Students were supported to verbally complete the sentence frame “I like school because ___” and illustrate their responses. Some students wrote about playing with friends, others about storytime, music, or playing outside. After illustrating, students shared their work with a partner or the class, celebrating the unique ways each student experiences school.
Science
This week, our classroom elves brought some exciting science experiments! Students explored weight and measurement using a balance scale and also made a baking soda and vinegar volcano erupt. They measured ingredients, made predictions, and watched as their volcanoes bubbled and fizzed. This hands-on learning task helped students practice measurement skills, observe reactions, and enjoy learning through discovery. We can’t wait to see what our elves (Buddy & Snowball) bring next!
Have a wonderful weekend!
