It is safe to say that kindergarten students love the snow! Please ensure you label all of your child's belongings so that they return home with them daily (e.g., boots, mittens, hats, coats, snow pants). Please have your child practice putting their zippers up at home.
- I can understand how living and participating in my community affects my sense of belonging.
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, and Wednesday, November 26, 2025, our kindergarten classes and parent volunteers will participate in a community walk to the Parkland Fire Station. We will walk down Lake Bonavista Drive and then turn right onto Lake Crimson Drive and continue forward to Parkland Boulevard. We will leave at approximately 9:40 am and return to the school at approximately 11:15 am, so students will be back at the school for lunchtime. Thank you again to the parents who will be volunteering; your time is greatly appreciated.
This off-site field study will be an extension of our learning in the classroom and is directly connected to our social studies curriculum. The social studies outcome that directly correlates to our learning task at the Parkland Fire Station is: Students explore and reflect on the characteristics and interests that bring people together in groups.
At the end of every day, we have a "goodbye" circle. Students reflect on the best parts of their day and things that they are proud of. Questions to ask your child at the end of the day:
- What was your favourite part of the day?
- What was something new you tried today?
- What was something new you learned today?
- Who did you play with today?
- What made you smile or laugh today?
When we ask students open-ended questions, we learn more about their interests and growth. It also moves students away from "yes/no, or I don't know" type answers.
Students are working on labelling their pictures.
- I can include my first name on messages created.
- I can share factual information.
- I can express ideas and information in a variety of creative ways.
- I can attempt to spell unknown words using letter-sound relationships.
- I can copy environmental print to become familiar with how words are spelled.
This week, we continued to review patterns and investigate numbers 1-10. Students have explored the following concepts:
- I can say the whole number sequence by 1s, starting anywhere from 0 to 10.
- I can say the whole number sequence by 1s, starting from 10 to 0.
- I can recognize at a glance and name familiar arrangements of 1 to 5 objects, dots, or pictures.
- I can count objects and match the numerals from a random pile of numerals.
- I can represent a number concretely and pictorially and explain it.
- I can show the same, more, and less by looking at a set of objects and explain.
To play, you need 2 players, 2 dice (one for each player), a pencil, and a piece of paper. Divide the paper in half and label one side “Player 1” and the other “Player 2. Both players roll their dice at the same time. Compare the numbers. The player with the larger number gets to add one tally mark to their side of the paper. Roll again and keep adding tallies. There is no set ending to the game—players decide when to stop. The winner can change at any time, making it an exciting game of luck and chance!
- I can show positive interactions with others during physical play.
