Hello Families,
We have had another fun-filled week of learning in kindergarten!
Thank You
- Thank you to our fabulous Grade 4 teachers, students, and Mrs. Odegard for your meaningful organization of our Orange Shirt Day Truth and Reconciliation assembly. Your sharing of stories, reflections, and music helped everyone in our school understand the importance of remembering the history of residential schools and honouring the experiences of Indigenous peoples. Your thoughtfulness, respect, and creativity inspired our kindergarten students to ask meaningful questions. Through your efforts, our school community was able to reflect, learn, and take important steps toward understanding and reconciliation.
 - Thank you to the Parent Association for organizing the lovely autumn-themed snack bar! Your creativity and thoughtfulness brought a cozy, festive touch to our week and provided our staff with a delightful treat to enjoy. We truly appreciate all the time and effort you put into making us feel special.

Literacy (UFLI Program)
This year, we are following the UFLI program. Daily, students work on learning letters, the sounds they make, and how to print them. We also sing songs about the letters to help remember them. Each day, students draw a picture to match the letter we learned (e.g., P is for pig).
Learning Intentions:
-
I can identify letters by their characteristics. (Letters Pg and Ff)
 -
I can make connections between letters and sounds in words.

How you can support learning at home:
-
Practice identifying letters and their sounds during reading or play.
 -
Encourage your child to draw a picture for a letter and say its sound.
 -
Sing alphabet songs together to reinforce letter recognition.

Picture Day
Picture Day was filled with excitement as students arrived in bright outfits and big smiles. Each photo captures a special moment in their kindergarten journey, a memory to treasure for years to come. Students showed independence, patience, and encouragement for their friends.
Orange Shirt Day
In kindergarten, we learned about Orange Shirt Day and the importance of every child feeling safe, loved, and respected. Through stories, songs, and discussions, students explored how wearing an orange shirt helps us remember that not all children were treated fairly in the past.
Learning Intentions:
-
I can identify how feelings can be shared and respected.
 -
I can demonstrate that our choices can make others feel included and valued.
 -
I can recognize that each person’s story and background are important.

Terry Fox
This week, students learned about Terry Fox and his courage, determination, and kindness in running across Canada to raise money for cancer research. We connected his story to helping others, trying our best, and being active.
Learning Intentions:
-
I can identify how people are unique and special and show care for others.
 -
I can describe ways people help their community.
 -
I can listen to stories and share my own thoughts and feelings.
 -
I can move my body in different ways and understand why being active is important.

How you can support learning at home:
-
Talk about times when your family has helped others.
 -
Share the message: “Terry Fox showed courage by trying his best to help people.”
 -
Take a family walk together and discuss how moving our bodies is fun and healthy.
 -
Encourage your child to bring a toonie for Terry to support our school fundraising goal.

Our First Fire Drill
Our Monday/Wednesday kindergarteners had their first fire drill this week. Students lined up quietly, followed directions, and walked safely to our meeting spot. Practicing drills helps children feel confident, stay safe, and learn important routines.
Learning Intentions:
-
I can follow directions in a safety drill.
 -
I can move safely with my classmates.
