Writing
Every day, students write and draw about superheroes (e.g., B is for Batman). Students engage in self and peer assessment and are very proud of their work! Their writing independence and stamina continue to grow, and I love seeing all of their progress. Way to go, Kinders! Students have been setting learning goals for themselves. Ask your child to share what they do well in their "Superhero Journals" and 1 goal they want to work on (e.g., colouring, drawing, printing).
- I can draw a detailed picture.
- I can use different colours neatly when colouring.
- I can identify capital letters at the beginning of sentences.
- I can identify periods at the end of sentences.
- I can print my letters neatly.
- I can use appropriate spacing when printing my words.
- I can identify capital letters in names and print my name using proper case letters.
Centre Time Exploration
“Play is the work of the child." ~ Maria Montessori
During centre time, students develop various skills, focusing on communication, emotional regulation, and social interactions. At the end of our day, many students indicate it has been a great day, but they are "tired." Below is a small "snapshot" of the many skills students learned or practiced this week while playing during centre time.
Social Responsibility
- I can share with others and take turns during play.
- I can work together to solve problems with my friends.
- I can show respect for others’ ideas and opinions.
Communication
- I can use my words to express how I feel.
- I can listen when others are talking.
- I can ask questions to learn more during play.
- I can follow simple directions from a teacher or friend.
Literacy
- I can recognize my name and other familiar words in print.
- I can draw pictures and tell a story about what I made.
- I can match letters to their sounds.
- I can listen to stories and talk about what happened in them.
Mathematics
- I can count objects up to 10 and beyond.
- I can recognize shapes and describe them.
- I can sort objects by size, colour, or shape.
- I can use numbers in play to measure, compare, or group things.
Creative Expression
Have a wonderful weekend.
